Andrew Goodwin's theory


Viewing and researching in today’s lesson, we looked through Andrew Goodwin’s theory in relation to music videos. We discussed the key conventions that is usually composed within music videos. This phase will enable us to include the elements and portray it within our music videos. This will also enable us to create a high quality and equally professional as real music videos that are released by famous artist.
Andrew Goodwin's theory of 6 different conventions:


  1. A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals which illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics.
  2. There is a relationship between the music and visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the music.
  3. Genre-related style and iconography present in music video
  4. Multiple close-ups of the artist to promote or develop a motifs which recur (repeats) across their work.
  5. Voyeurism often plays a major part, parcticularly of the females.
  6. Often intertextual reference to other media, especially in humorous videos.
These key features will be useful to us in terms of assisting and assembling of creating our music videos. Also analysing different music videos conventions and their relation towards Andrew Goodwin's theory.
