Digipack- Conventions of our Album Magazine Advert

The functions of magazine adverts are:
  1. To promote the artist
  2. To sell the song
  3. To attract target audience, by making it eye catchy
In my research found that most of the conventions of magazine adverts should contain:
  • Artist name (This is very important feature as the audience need to know who the name of the band is. As well as, help promote the artists )
  • Album/Song title (This is important feature because the consumer needs to know the name of the albumbe to be able to purchase the album )
  • The release date (This is important feature because it important to inform the audience about when they are able to start purchasing the album)
  • Image of album cover (This is important feature in an advert to identify and know how the the album cover to be able to purchase it)
  • Information about album ( This is important feature in an advert for target audience to get a rough idea of what will be in the album and what are the songs would be in the album)
  • Where it is available to purchase (This feature is important in a magazine advert as the audience will be informed whether it is available to purchase on iTunes, Amazon etc)
  • Record label logo (This is important feature because by knowing which record label they are signed to, we would get an idea of type of record such as professional record or regular recordand what kind of music they’re playing in the album.)
  • Websites/ Following the artist (This is important for audience to directly research the artist or also perhaps contact the band if needed to)
For our Album Magazine Advert, its very important to follow these features to promote our artist in very creative way, as well as, keep the advert within the Indie rock genre and in its simplistic design. By using the artist record and contain our artist's icnonography we have embeded on the album and embed it on to our magazine advert. To add to that, add extra features we have not mention in our Album such as iTunes icon to inform the traget audience where they can purchase/download the album.

Digipack- Tour Poster Research & Conventions

During our media class we did a small activity which was to watch a music video of an album by Years & years and create a brief visual of a Tour Poster. Everyone drawing where very similar to each other. This is called synaesthesia. For example, when we hear or see a music video and apply our visuals.  I drew half of the lead singer to show an extreme close up of him and to present his importance. I then add some detailed information of the tour and the band. I also drew their logo which I didn't remember/ recognise before, that left me with making one up hoping for the best it would be similar to their typography, and luckily I visualised it exactly as their logo. After the activity, our teacher handed to us the actual tour poster to compare our visuals to the bands tour poster.

My drawing:

The actual tour poster:

We then deiscussed and researched the conventions of Tour Posters
Tour poster conventions
  • Posters usually follow the same themes present in the front and back of their album covers.
  • Although the image may differ slightly of have been enhanced with different effects, the posters image usually has similar denotations to the albums image. This usually occurs because the images used on the album and poster are often taken in the same photoshoot, resulting in images of a similar theme.
  • When it comes to the text on a poster the name of the artist or the name of the album is usually the biggest size and exactly in the same typography of the band (the type of font the band used for their name).
  • Text is often limited to the album name, the artist's name, the tour name & dates
  • Usually the words "new album" or "Out Now" are presented within the poster to draw the audience attention to recognise the album if its NEW or OUT.
  • Promotional posters also include information about details of the album and/ or album tour. These details include the venues dates and websites to inform the viewer of he album release and/ or where to obtain tickets for the tour event.

  • Image of the band or no characters

The inside of the album
  • Usually the colour scheme is the same as the rest of album
  • Blank and plain background
  • No characters but usually objects are present within the frame
  • Few or no text
  • Sometimes album name

The spine of the album
